Upgrade Your Campfire Experience with These Must-Have Accessories
I’ll admit, I’m a guy that like to accessorize.
When it comes to camping, few things can compare to the cozy and relaxing atmosphere of a campfire. Whether you’re enjoying a night with friends, roasting marshmallows, or simply taking in the peaceful surroundings, a campfire can truly elevate your camping experience. But with the right accessories, you can take your campfire experience to the next level. Here are some must-have accessories to upgrade your next campfire:
Portable Fire Pit
A portable fire pit allows you to have a campfire almost anywhere, without damaging the ground or risking a wildfire. It’s also easy to clean and transport. It might never leave your backyard, but it guarantees campfires year-round.
Lighters
You have to light the fire somehow, and sure, matches or a Bic lighter will do the job, but c’mon. I personally like using a blowtorch, but I think these electric starters are worth exploring.
Firestarters
Don’t rely on matches or lighters (or a blowtorch) alone to start your fire. Firestarters are an easy and reliable way to get your fire going quickly, and are a fun DIY project you can do at home. Or head to Etsy to find lots of firestarter options that enterprising people have already made for you.
Campfire Grill
With a campfire grill, you can cook your meals over the fire and enjoy a delicious outdoor feast. Make sure to get one that’s durable and easy to clean. I love my Texsport extra large version for coffee, skillets, and camp Dutch ovens, and the Diliboz Campfire Tripod for smaller meals.
Marshmallow Roasting Sticks
A campfire wouldn’t be complete without roasting marshmallows, and having the right roasting sticks can make all the difference. Look for sticks that are long, sturdy, and have comfortable handles. We have the old school long metal prongs that you can buy from any sporting goods store, but the new telescoping ones look way easier to pack. I’m also not opposed to finding a stick, grabbing a knife, whittling off the weird end, and start roasting.
Folding Camp Chairs
I have a history of breaking chairs. A man of my carriage needs a high-quality chair, ready for the hours spent at the campfire. A comfortable and sturdy camp chair can make a huge difference in your campfire experience. Look for chairs that are lightweight, easy to fold, and have cup holders for your beverage. Breaking from current camping tradition, I prefer the director’s chair variety. Some of my smaller family members enjoy this ultralight variety, which goes backpacking with them too.
Blow Poke
Buying a blow poke was a game changer. Getting the fire going or stoking the coals to give up an ember can be done by blowing air over the coals. I’ve seen it done with frisbees, dinner plates, random cardboard, or more recently, a blow poke. It’s basically a metal tube that you blow through to stoke the fire that can double as a poker stick. I bought mine from our local blacksmith at a Renaissance Fair, and I love it! This one also has hooks for log pulling.
Campfire Tools
Having the right tools, such as gloves or tongs, can make tending the fire easier and safer. Make sure to choose tools that are durable and can withstand high temperatures.
Portable Speakers
Music can set the mood and create a fun atmosphere around the campfire. Portable speakers allow you to play your favorite tunes without disturbing others. Just keep it quiet, please.
Guitar or Ukulele
Nothing beats sitting around the campfire while someone strums a guitar or ukulele. It’s one of my favorite parts of camping.
Bug Spray
Unfortunately, bugs are a part of outdoor camping, and they can quickly ruin your campfire experience. Make sure to pack bug spray or some sort of bug repeller to keep the pesky insects away.
Upgrading your campfire experience with the right accessories can make all the difference. From portable fire pits to bug spray, make sure to pack these must-have items to enjoy a safe and memorable camping trip.
